66–68 EAST 4th STREET

66-68 East 4th Street is the largest cultural building on the block with 44,000 sq. ft. of cultural space.  It was once known as Turn Hall, and was the site of the first professional Yiddish theater production in the United States.  Now it's home to La Mama E.T.C. (which operates the Annex theater here, host to avant garde artists from around the world) and the Millennium Film Workshop, a mainstay in supporting you independent filmmakers.  The first floor loft, vacant for years, was leased in 2003 to La Mama which has installed a public archive containing one of the most extensive collections of Off Off Broadway history.  La MaMa's main theater on the block is located at 74 E. 4th St.  66-68 E. 4th St. underwent substantial renovation in the 1990's, paid for by the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs (DCA).  It needs moderate renovation of a couple of floors, estimated at $325,000.
