FAB's MISSION:

Fourth Arts Block (FAB) is a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by cultural and community groups to establish and advance the East 4th Street Cultural District, between 2nd Avenue and Bowery. FAB is working with our members to create a permanent home for the arts and to preserve the unique cultural nature of East 4th Street, which has fostered creative diversity and experimentation for more than 30 years.

FAB provides a coordinated voice and plan for the development of the East 4th Street Cultural District. FAB’s goals include:

  • Planning and advocating for our Cultural District Plan, which includes 7 new studios and theaters, a public archive, a set and costume design shop, and new administrative space;
  • Leading centralized projects that benefit our members and provide a model for sustainable development, including streetscape and building improvements;
  • Directing shared marketing and outreach initiatives to raise the district’s visibility;
  • Leading community building and outreach efforts through the FAB! Festival and other special events and partnerships;
  • Providing customized training and assistance to support the growth and capacity of our members.

Fourth Arts Block is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts. We are also grateful for generous support from Deutsche Bank, the J.M. Kaplan Fund, Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, New York University Community Fund, Seedco Financials, Sovereign Bank, and NYC & Company. Special thanks to City Council Member Rosie Mendez, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, Alliance of Resident Theaters/New York, and all our members.
