La MaMa E.T.C. Mission: For 46 years La MaMa has passionately pursued its original mission to develop, nurture, support, produce and present new and original performance work by artists of all nations and cultures. We believe that in order to flourish, art needs the company of colleagues, the spirit of collaboration, the comfort of continuation, and a public forum in which to be evaluated and fiscal support. Presenting the work of the International Avant-garde: La MaMa is an internationally recognized portal through which come new work from around the world and an important venue for artists centered in NYC. La MaMa Moves Dance Festival: Annually, we present a dance festival that takes place in all three of our venues; The Annex, The Club and The First Floor Theatre. Coffeehouse Chronicles: presents personal accounts of the history and development of the Experimental, International & Off-Off Broadway Theatre scenes in NYC and at La MaMa from 1961 by the individuals who created them. The Great Jones Repertory Company: produces at least one new work every year and now has works in repertory that encompass a range of turns on classic works. Reading Series, Experiments: A reading series designed to give emerging playwrights the opportunity to hear and see their work read before an audience and to receive feedback in audience response sessions after the readings. Poetry Electric: A bi-monthly series provides an opportunity to discover new ways to present the spoken word. This series strives to push poetry beyond the conventional. By incorporating music into the series, poets expand their methods of delivery. La Galleria: We have a full program of artist exhibitions.
Ticket Subsidy Program: Over the course of our season we distribute 4,000-6,000 free tickets to our events through established nonprofit senior centers, women’s shelters, rehabilitation programs, schools, and other social service agencies. |
