DUO Multi-Cultural Arts Center

DUO Theater under the Artistic Direction of Michelangelo Alasa' and co-Artistic Directors Anthony Ruiz and Luke Valerio is dedicated to developing and producing theater works by Latino playwrights as well as employing Latino directors, actors and designers. DUO Theater achieves this through its programs which include: The MUSICAL THEATER COMMISSION PROGRAM which has commissioned over 21 musicals including the long running BORN TO RUMBA! and CHEZ GARBO. Five of these productions have been recorded and released on CD. The IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT SERIES, showcases Latino actors in plays by leading world playwrights, in roles in which they are seldom cast. Productions have included BENT, THE NORMAL HEART, THE BLUE ROOM, BEIRUT, BETRAYAL, EASTERN STANDARD.

DUO is a founding member of Fourth Arts Block (www.fabnyc.org). On December 13, 2005 through the perseverance of City Council member Margarita Lopez, HPD, Mayor Bloomberg, the City Council, the Manhattan Borough President and the Department of Cultural Affairs DUO became coowner of 62 East 4th Street, the building they have been in residence for 20 years. Duo becomes part of a handful of Latino based organizations nationwide to own their facility.

DUO Theatre is now a component of the larger DMAC – Duo Multicultural Arts Center, which is offering new possibilities to expand and re-define what the company produces. Exciting new programs for next season include the "In Concert @ Duo" cabaret series as well as the "Salon @ Duo" series featuring dance and chamber/new music programs. On our 3rd floor "Emergence, the gallery @ Duo" dedicated to new media + digital works will continue with cutting edge programming.
