A globally-recognized laboratory for the investigation of dance and movement-based forms, Movement Research is located in the 122 Cultural Center located at the corner of First Avenue and Ninth Street. Movement Research’s spaces were designed by Angel Ayón, Lead Architect of AYON Studio. The 122CC is housed in a Romanesque Revival style building originally constructed as Public School 122, designed by renowned school architect Charles B.J. Snyder. In the 2010s, the building underwent a multiyear floor-to-ceiling renovation designed by Deborah Berke Partners. For OHNY, Movement Research will host: 15-20 minutes tours of its dance studios and auxiliary spaces led by architect Angel Ayón and Movement Research staff. 45 minute drop-in sample class sessions will be offered exploring a variety of physical inquiry and somatic practices such as Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais®. The materials, methodologies, and approaches of each session are informed by the unique creative investigations of each teaching artist. We welcome you to come and explore these body and movement practices. Comfortable clothing that is easy to move in is recommended.
