East 4th Street Open Street (btwn Bowery & 2nd Ave)
For FAB’s Arts and Culture Open House, the Lower East Side Preservation Initiative — LESPI — will lead a free walking tour on Saturday October 18 from 3:00-4:30pm, entitled “A Neighborhood Transformed,” that will explore the historic landmarks on East 4th Street and the surrounding blocks. These wonderful buildings are remarkable for their architecture and storied histories. Registration is required (here).
Additionally LESPI will participate in the Open House with an informational table on East 4th Street that will include petitions, brochures, maps, published books, t-shirts, and more, focusing on preserving Manhattan’s historic Lower East Side.
Wheelchair accessible
Lower East Side Preservation Initiative (LESPI) advocates for the preservation of the historic architecture and diverse culture of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, which includes the East Village, LES below Houston St., Chinatown, Little Italy, and the Bowery. We do this by documenting and mapping the area’s historic streetscapes, increasing awareness of the community’s important architecture, history, and culture, and rallying residents, city officials and the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission to effect the landmark designation of historic districts and individual buildings.
